Been some time since I last posted here! Also has been some time since I managed to "complete" a side project. Well, I say "complete" in quotes, because though it's basically ready for folks to play around with, it still has a ways to go before I can consider it a final version. Regardless, I'm proud of this little game I've been working on over the last year or more.
The game is currently dubbed "Homeland: A Running RPG", though it's unlikely to be the final name. The premise is simple: it's a GPS-based RPG where you explore the world by walking or running outside, in the real world, near your house. You find items and locations that you can use to upgrade your home base, craft potions, or upgrade gear. Then you use the gear to complete combat challenges. You select a "quest" which gives you a simple goal, such as travelling 1km in the real world or visiting a previously-seen location.
So far that's all in play, but there is a backlog of things I'd like to eventually include:
More items, locations, town buildings, weapons, etc.
More combat challenges
Different types of quests
Balancing and fine-tuning the combat and game economy
Many other things
However, I've learned from my past errors: I want to release a "finished" MVP before I start opening up the Pandora's Box of refinements and nice-to-haves! That's all coming soon.
If you want to get your hands on this thing, send me an email at flavkupe@gmail.com and I can get you into the internal testing list. For now I'd like to keep this manual. You can check some details here.
Meanwhile, here are some images!
